Staff Spotlight: Sheila Smyle, Advanced Certified Paralegal
Meet Sheila Smyle, an Advanced Certified Paralegal who has been working at our firm since 2015! Sheila first started in the legal field in 1990 as a legal secretary and then earned her Professional Legal Secretary Certification (NALS) shortly thereafter. She became a Certified Paralegal (NALA) in 2003. Sheila works for attorneys Talbot J. Wieczorek and Matthew E. Naasz, who both work in the practice areas of Business Law, Litigation, and Governmental, Administrative, and Municipal Law. We asked Sheila what a typical day is like for her as a paralegal and her response was “No two days are alike, which is one of the things I enjoy the most about it.”

Matt wanted to become a lawyer because he enjoys the diversity and working with people, as well as the challenge of helping solve problems. Meet Kristi Wood, Cris Palmer’s legal assistant for the last seven years! Kristi’s favorite part of being a legal assistant for attorney Cris Palmer, who focuses on insurance defense, is problem-solving and helping their clients. A typical day for Kristi consists of mail, emails, telephone calls, scheduling, drafting pleadings, settlement agreements, and letters. She has been with the firm for 13.5 years and a lot of her favorite memories are the team building and socializing events like the YMCA Corporate Cup, staff retreats, and Christmas parties.

Meet Rebecca L. Mann, a lawyer who has been at our firm for the last 10 years! She was born and raised in Spearfish, South Dakota, and attended undergraduate school at Black Hills State University followed by law school at the University of South Dakota. Rebecca enjoys all aspects of litigation work from motions practice, trial work, and appellate advocacy. Her practice areas include litigation, worker’s compensation, and her favorite practice area, governmental liability, because she enjoys representing counties and county officials in civil rights actions.
