In Memoriam: Wynn A. Gunderson

We mourn the passing of Wynn A. Gunderson, a founding attorney of Gunderson, Palmer, Nelson & Ashmore, LLP, whose dedication and vision shaped the firm's success. Wynn's legacy of leadership in the legal community and his contributions to our firm will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wynn A. Gunderson, one of the founding attorneys of our firm, Gunderson, Palmer, Nelson & Ashmore, LLP.

Wynn's remarkable journey began at the University of South Dakota, where he graduated in 1957 with an undergraduate degree in business science, followed by a Master’s in Business Administration in 1960. After receiving his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1971, Wynn returned to his home state of South Dakota with his family, where he opened his law office in Rapid City.

Wynn’s dedication and vision led to the firm’s expansion. In 1973, he brought on J. Crisman Palmer as an intern, who later became an attorney and his partner. Together, they grew the firm to become one of the largest in western South Dakota.

Wynn was a respected leader in the legal community. He served as chair of the American Bar Association's General Practice, Solo, and Small Firm divisions and was the only South Dakota lawyer to do so. He also served on the ABA House of Delegates, the nomination committee, and as a Board of Trustees member of the International Association of Gaming Attorneys (IAGA), where he contributed to The Gaming Law Reviews editorial board.

Wynn’s contributions to our firm, our community, and the legal profession will leave a lasting legacy. We extend our deepest condolences to his family during this difficult time.
