Joshua A. Weinheimer is an Associate Attorney with Gunderson, Palmer, Nelson & Ashmore, LLP. His practice areas include agricultural law, estate planning, probate, real property, and trusts.

Josh has deep roots in central South Dakota and a grand appreciation for rural life. Growing up on the family farm in Sully County, Josh was fascinated by how law affected the farm business and the environment around him. This inspired Josh to serve his community in a legal capacity. After graduating from Sully Buttes High School, he went on to South Dakota State University and set his sights on law school. He sought his undergraduate degree in Agricultural Business and explored the legal field during summer internships with the South Dakota Attorney General’s office in Pierre. In 2019, he graduated from SDSU summa cum laude.

Josh then went on to pursue his law degree from the University of South Dakota. While in law school, he served as an editor on the South Dakota Law Review and interned with both the Speaker Pro Tempore of the South Dakota House of Representatives and Gunderson, Palmer, Nelson, and Ashmore in Pierre. Josh completed his juris doctor cum laude in 2022.

Following law school, Josh returned to Pierre and spent a year as a law clerk in U.S. District Court for the Honorable Mark A. Moreno. Josh’s clerkship experience provided him valuable insight into the practice of law in South Dakota and shaped his perspective on legal strategy, communication, ethics, and policy. Josh then returned to GPNA’s Pierre office where he enjoys maintaining a close connection with his family and farm.
