Nathan Chicoine joined the firm of Gunderson Palmer Nelson & Ashmore LLP in 2014. His specialties include Commercial Litigation, Insurance Defense and Real Estate law. Along with partner Jason Smiley, Nathan is part of the team responsible for much of GPNA’s Construction law portfolio. Nathan also works closely with partners Sara Frankenstein, Dan Ashmore and Quentin Riggins. A graduate of the University of South Dakota, Nathan holds his Juris Doctor as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Psychology. He is the author of the article “Flawless Execution: Examining Ways to Reduce South Dakota’s Lethal Injection Risks”, published in the South Dakota Law Review. Prior to joining GPNA, Nathan worked as a law clerk for the Seventh Judicial Circuit of South Dakota. Originally from Pierre, Nathan is a lifelong South Dakotan. He serves on the boards of the South Dakota Young Lawyers Section, Johnson Siding Fire Protection District, his local Homeowners’ Association and the Rapid City Lion’s Club (Downtown). His wife, Catherine, is also an attorney. Together, they enjoy hiking the Black Hills with their dogs.
Nathan is licensed to practice law in South Dakota and Nebraska, as well as the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe. As an attorney, Nathan listens carefully to his clients and enjoys finding solutions on their behalf. He strives to be patient, professional and courteous with his coworkers and is known for his no-nonsense approach. With his clients he is responsive and is keen to understand their perspectives and values. He is well-liked and respected by his colleagues.
