Matt wanted to become a lawyer because he enjoys the diversity and working with people, as well as the challenge of helping solve problems. One of his favorite things of being a lawyer is not only working with people but helping them get through tough spots.

Matt’s practice areas include civil litigation, business and real estate litigation, administrative law, and environmental law. His favorite practice area is water law. Matt stated “As assistant attorney general I was the attorney for the South Dakota Water Management Board. In that role, I became familiar with the legal process involved in obtaining rights to appropriate water in South Dakota. I also became familiar with the South Dakota Water law statutes and rules. Water is a precious resource and helping clients put our state’s water to beneficial use provides me a great deal of satisfaction.”

When Matt isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with his wife Carissa with whom he’s been married to for almost 15 years and their three children, Isabelle (age 11) Ariel (age 9) and Evelyn (age 7). Matt likes to watch sports, especially when the Minnesota Twins or Miami Dolphins are playing. His favorite vacation he has been on is to Disney World with his wife and kids and has always wanted to travel to Alaska.
