Meet Dan Ashmore, an attorney at our firm who has been practicing law for nearly 40 years. Dan is one of the founding attorneys at the firm and is fortunate to have seen the firm grow from three attorneys when he first started to now nearly 20.
Dan was born and raised in Rapid City, South Dakota, and attended Stevens High School. He went to business and law school at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota. Dan graduated from law school in 1979 and after graduation he wasn’t sure what to do in the legal world. He had the opportunity to be a prosecutor for a period of time and then went into private practice with our firm. Dan’s primary practice areas consist of insurance and corporate defense including workers' compensation. He also represents injured people when the occasion arises.
A typical day for Dan involves many things. When we asked him what it usually entails he stated “My typical day consists of talking to clients and reviewing documents and files to prepare for whatever part of the litigation process is next in the case. Due to the nature of my practice and the fact that I represent companies throughout South Dakota and North Dakota much of my time is spent traveling to towns or to meet with people regarding cases.” He enjoys the new challenges that each case brings and the opportunity to interact with clients and fellow attorneys.
Dan is also involved in several different organizations, some of which include the International Association of Defense Counsel, Defense Research Institute, South Dakota Defense Lawyers Association, American Bar Association, State Bar of North Dakota, State Bar of South Dakota, Pennington County Bar Association, and Children’s Home Society.
Outside of work, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife whom he has been married to for 41 years! They both met while in college and have two children together, a daughter and son. In his downtime he likes to watch sports. Dan is a big fan of watching golf especially the main tournaments and also likes to watch the Denver Broncos or Colorado Rockies play.
We asked Dan where he would like to travel to one day and his response “I want to travel to all of Europe and we have a long ways to go as we have only been there a few times, but Spain is my favorite place I have been to so far.”
Dan is a key asset at Gunderson, Palmer, Nelson & Ashmore, LLP and we are thankful to have him at the firm. He is very knowledgeable in his practice and brings a wealth of experience. Please reach out to Dan if you have any questions for him through the contact page on our website or by calling the firm at (605) 342-1078.
