Jana Smoot White has practiced law for over ten years and has practiced in South Dakota with Gunderson Palmer Nelson Ashmore, LLP since 2013. She is a partner concentrating her practice in Insurance Defense, Coverage and Bad Faith and Commercial Litigation. Jana especially enjoys the in-depth research and education that each case demands, a nod to her college training as a journalist. A steadfast advocate, she works hard to fulfill her responsibilities to her clients and partners and is universally well-liked in return. Jana also serves on the board for the HOPE Center in Rapid City, and as President of the Children's Hemiplegia and Stroke Association. She has a natural charisma and likability and her peers respect her humility, intellect and energy.
Born in Deadwood, South Dakota but raised in Kansas, Jana graduated from the University of Kansas in 2003, with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. She went on to the University of Kentucky, earning her Juris Doctor in 2006. Jana holds an AV Preeminent rating with Martindale Hubbell, was named a Super Lawyers Rising Star for 2014 and 2015, received the Rising Star Award from the Lexington Young Professionals in 2012 and the Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year Award from the Fayette County Bar Association in 2012. Jana is also a Kentucky Colonel, having been commissioned by the Commonwealth in 2012. She and her husband James have two young daughters and two spoiled dogs. Jana enjoys skiing, golfing, cheering on the Kansas Jayhawks and vacations back in Kentucky with her close-knit law school classmates. She looks forward to many years of devoting herself to serving her clients and our community, as well as perfecting her golf game.
